What Change Isn’t

Change is not a magical, one-time event. It’s not the flip of a switch, where you suddenly wake up consistent, disciplined, or “fixed.” We love the idea that once we decide to change, everything will fall into place. That from the moment we make that choice, life will align perfectly.

But here’s the truth: change isn’t clean. It’s messy, layered, and often frustrating.

Change doesn’t mean you’ll suddenly stick to your plan every day or wake up motivated all the time. It doesn’t mean you’ll never fall back into old habits or struggle with the same patterns. It doesn’t erase your past—it builds on it, bit by bit, moment by moment.

The expectation that consistency just arrives when we decide to change is where most people falter. When they stumble once, they think, I’ve failed. But stumbling is part of the process.

Change is more like learning to walk again. You’ll trip. You’ll get frustrated. You’ll want to stop. But every time you get back up, you’re rewiring something deeper. You’re proving that the decision to change wasn’t a one-time event—it’s a daily commitment.

If you’re expecting perfection, you’re setting yourself up to quit. If you’re expecting progress—no matter how slow or chaotic—you’re actually giving yourself permission to change.

What change isn’t: immediate or effortless.

What change is: messy, deliberate, and worth it.
